Day 6

Last day traveling! Today we woke up bright and early and dragged ourselves out of bed in the rain to see the royal palace and a castle. The palace was cool but a bit disappointing especially so early but the castle was amazing. It made the long day totally worth it. Upon returning to the hotel we ventured out to find the hot dog stand we saw yesterday and ate some amazing hot dogs inside of croissants. After that it was time to relax before we ate what was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten, totally worth spending the rest of my kroner on. We ended the night walking along the water eating ice cream after we watched our cones be hand made.
Fredensborg palace, home to the royal couple in Spring and Autumn. It is a baroque style palace from the 1700's modeled after Italian villas.
No photography in the palace and we got booties!
Outside on the grounds, the prettiest part of the palace
You can walk all the way back to lake Esrum, there is a 55 horse stable on the property too and a Norwegian valley with 70 sculptures of various ordinary people (farmers, fisherman, etc).
Standing on one of the paths, there are also private gardens and riding grounds for the royal family. The gardens are set up to look very large and the paths often narrow for depth effect.
Looking back at the palace. Every Danish king has been names wither Frederik or Christian except one, Johan.
The end of our walk through the grounds, we are now at the lake!
Frederiksborg castle and the baroque gardens, these gardens also use optical illusions to look larger.
It was so pretty even in the rain. The original was built in the 1600's but a fire destroyed most of it and it was rebuilt in 1859.

These are the monograms on the lower terrace of the gardens. They represent four monarchs.
By far my favorite place we have visited!
Walking into the interior of the castle walls
The churhc, if you live in the area you can get married here
The ceilings in the entire castle are as detailed as these.
Me in the church!
These shields cover the walls of the church and are for all the people who have received the elephant award of honor. Nelson Mandela and President Eisenhower are both on the wall!
This is made out of ebony and copper and it is in the kings room, he would pray in front of it during war time
Even the hall ways are fancy! this leads into a really pretty meeting room
An elevator! The king would sit in the chair and be lowered to the floors below.
One of the king Christian's bibles from 1090
Just one of the painted ceilings that we saw in every room
I think this was my favorite one, there were also cool astronomy tools in the little round room connecting to this.
A lion in the ballroom
Back outside after the tour, the fountain is in the main courtyard outside the castle.
Amazing dinner! Corn, Veal fillet with Gorgonzola glaze, veggies, potatoes and Irish coffee
Ice cream for desert! We watched the cones being made.
The girls on our last night in Denmark, London here we come!
