Day 15

Today I traveled back in time, and took a visit to Darwin's house and small village. It really was like being back in time, everything is very old fashioned and his house is exactly like it was when he lived there so if there weren't cars around you might think you were in the 18th or 19th century. We went with my class and Dr. DG's class. The DG and Weaver families also came along, which was awesome because all the kids are really fun to hang out with. The house was very cool, saw a copy of Das Kapital (Karl Marx's communist book) dedicated to Darwin, saw his study and the rest of the ground floor, and walked the gardens. All of Darwin's specimens are set up in his study and around the house and you can see his notes, and drawings so it's pretty cool. The gardens are really pretty, we saw Venus fly traps, some mice, and a lot of bees. We also walked the sandwalk which was the path Darwin walked twice a day. After seeing Darwin's house I met Meggan and Michael at Westminster Abbey. It is absolutely spectacular inside. I wish I could have taken pictures, the architecture as amazing and the entire cathedral is gorgeous. Seeing all the famous graves was cool too, Elizabeth I, Laurence Olivier, T.S. Elliot, Robert Browning, and a whole lot more royalty and famous literary figures. Dinner was terrible this evening, so I went running in Hyde park and then we went for crepes after. I also stopped at Bookthrift, this cute little bookstore down the street, today and found some really good deals on books. Tomorrow we leave for the lake district, so it should be an awesome weekend!
Walking up to Darwin's, it was a lot bigger than I was imagining
The whole Darwin group
Heading out back
Cool flowers, and a bee covered in pollen
You can see all the pollen on this bee. Who else is shocked I got that close to a bee?
Fields behind the house
Lindsey, Julian and Aineta frolicking in the meadow
Flowers in the rain
Aineta blowing a dandelion
Westminster Abbey!
In the cloisters
Looking back at the abbey from the cloisters
Aren't the arches cool? The whole place has them but bigger!
Flying buttresses, looking across the lawn from the cloisters.
Front of the abbey, the detail is amazing
