The time has come for me to start blogging about books. I mean nothing too terribly exciting is actually happening this summer, and writing about work, beach trips and adventures in comic book stores is going to get a little boring and repetitive. So today's post will be about the books I've read so far this summer. Just in case anyone was wondering I really love reading, and during the summer I read a lot. In fact, I'm going to need to pick up some more books before I go to London (long plane ride = lots of reading). So this summer started off with me cleaning out my book collection (I'm trying to clean out my whole room since it's basically a huge collection of crap I've accumulated since elementary school). So anyway I own a lot of books, like an entire 6 shelf bookcase full, a large cabinet full and a few boxes under my bed full of books. Sadly I sorted through all these books and got rid of a ton but it has given me more space in my room which is nice and it has allowed me to re discover some of the books I loved as a child.
That brings us to our first book: The House Next Door
It's a ghost story about a girl (Emma) and her twin brother (Charlie) who live next door to a super creepy old house and the girl starts getting the memories of the girl who died in the house. She starts to see a fire, and a forbidden love story and all the events of the past start happening again and it seems like Emma might die. Oh and the twins are telepathic btw. Anyway it's a decent book, one that can be read in a few hours and one I'm sure I bought in middle school. Most of my books from a younger age contain a ghost story, or supernatural theme.I read a lot of Joan Lowery Nixon, Christopher Pike, Caroline B Cooney, etc.
Book 2: Kiss of Death (part of the Morganville Vampire series)
Another relatively easy read, and part of a series I read about a college town in middle of nowhere Texas that is secretly inhabited by vampires who control all the locals, and most of the college kids are totally ignorant to this. All I can say is I really like the pink hair of the girl on the cover. The book is about the same as the others in the series, plenty of fighting and vampire action. I feel like the story line might be getting tired, and I'm not sure what else you can do with a series about 4 kids and vampires.
Book 3: Dead in the Family
Sookie Stackhouse is never a disappointment. Now if I could only get my hands on the second season of True Blood. Once again Sookie is being tormented my mystery and monsters. Her lover Eric the hot vampire is in trouble with his new boss, and then his sire comes to town with a crazy Russian kid vampire. Lots of fighting, and as always a decent plot line. I do love vampire novels, I think this comes from my obsession with Buffy and Angel, but that will have to be explained in another blog (I did see a lot of Buffy action figures and comics and other collectibles on my adventure yesterday).
Book 4: The Summer of Naked Swim Parties
If you read any of the books I'm reading pick this one. It was a bargin book and B&N and a totally random buy but it was awesome. It's set in the 70's and follows the summer adventures of a 14 year old girl who's parents are total potheads and who throw naked swim parties. Totally adorable and hysterical. Its the summer she gets her first real boyfriend, loses her friends when they get boyfriends, and figures out who she is. It's just a good story about growing up and life. There is also a trampoline and a crazy Indian guy.
Currently Reading: My Horizontal Life
Chelsea Handler is hilarious. This book follows her drunken sexcapades and adventures with a random assortment of friends and terrible roommates. It's all about her 20's and the crazy adventures she has and it's hysterical. She talks about bad roommates, her crazy parents, shitty jobs, partying and all the people she meets. I'm about 3/4 of the way through and I'm going to have to find her other book "Are you there Vodka, It's me Chelsea" next.
